Jamuna Television, the country’s latest private TV channel, went on air yesterday.
The formal launch of the news-based TV channel took place at 7.30pm. Information minister Hasanul Haque Inu formally inaugurated the telecast at a colourful function at Jamuna Future Park in the city.At the outset, a group of artistes rendered the national anthem. Then came the welcome address by Jamuna TV CEO Abu Alam Shaheed and chief telecast adviser Simon Dring. Chairman of Jamuna Group and Jamuna Television Nurul Islam thanked the guests in a short speech.
Speaking as the chief guest Information minister Hasanul Haque Inu said, “the present government is a media-friendly government. Inviting constructive criticism of the government he said, “democracy becomes stronger if media is powerful. He wished successful journey of Jamuna TV in the media world.
Present at the inaugural function were among others PM’s adviser HT Imam, Bashundhara Group chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, Jugantor publisher Salma Islam MP, Jamuna TV MD Shamim Islam, political leaders and journalists.
