Bashundhara Group, a leading business conglomerate in the country, will continue support for pediatric cardiology to facilitate treatment of the underprivileged children with heart diseases.

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan made the assurance when a delegation of physicians from Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital and Research Institute (ICHRI) called on him at his office in the capital on Sunday.

The delegates include ICHRI pediatric cardiology department head Dr Shahidul Islam, cardiac surgeon Dr Mohammad Rokonujjaman Selim and Admin division head Manjurul Hoque.

Physicians said that there are a significant number of children die of cardiac problems every year as facilities in public and private hospitals are not enough to provide treatment for a huge number of patients. During the meeting, they also sought technical support from the Bashundhara Group chairman to develop infrastructure for providing modern services for children.

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan assured the physicians of providing support for the expansion of pediatric cardiology facilities in Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital.

Bashundhara Group has been providing support for the treatment of the underprivileged children with heart diseases.

Multi-coloured flowers flooded the office of the Daily Sun on Thursday as eminent personalities graced the auspicious day with good wishes as the newspaper stepped into its 10th year.

It was the newspapers day to remember with exchange of good wishes and a renewed pledge to uphold the spirit of the Liberation War and to serve accurate news that matters.

Among the dignitaries, Parliament Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, graced the festivities as the chief guest and followed by Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, Chairman of the
Daily Sun’s owning company – the Bashundhara Group – as the guest of honour. Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud also joined the celebration as a special guest.

Politicians, cultural personalities and media friends came in droves the whole day with cameras clicking to save the memorable time for the future.

In her comments, the speaker said “It is one of the responsibilities of the media to publish objective news being imbued with the spirit of independence. You should have the courage to present the truth on behalf of the country.”

The Speaker inaugurated the Daily Sun’s daylong celebration as the publications, one of the leading English dailies of the country, started a new chapter in its journey to bring readers accurate news amid a flurry of fake or mitivated news. Daily Sun is an outlet of East West Media Group Limited owned by the Bashundhara Group, the largest conglomerate of the country.

Bashundhara Group Co-Chairman Sadat Sobhan Tanvir and daily sun editor Enamul Hoque Chowdhury were present on the occasion and joined the chief guest and the guest of honour in cutting the birthday cake amid claps and cheers.

The Speaker said the mass media of Bangladesh is enjoying its golden era under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the government believes that

Greeting the daily sun family, Dr Shirin Sharmin said the newspaper won the hearts of the readers as one of the most popular English dailies.

Addressing the programme, Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said the daily sun and other media outlets of East West Media Group Ltd had been surging ahead with impartial journalism.

“We stand by the people and the country at large. Bangladesh has achieved unprecedented socioeconomic development due to the strong leadership and healthy policies of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. We want to be a part of the development journey,” he said.

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, who came to greet the members of the Daily Sun, said “newspapers can play a pivotal role to take the country forward by presenting accurate information.”

The information minister said the media has a great responsibility in empowering people and the Daily Sun works to this end. He wished success of the newspaper.

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan was Accorded Special Honour For his Supportive Role in BBFA Ceremony

The first ever Bharat-Bangladesh Film Awards (BBFA) ceremony was held at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital on Monday.

Bashundhara Group, country’s leading business conglomerate, and Film Federation of India jointly organised the gala award ceremony. The event was presented by TM Films, a Bangladeshi film production company.

At the outset of the programme, Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan was accorded special honour for his supportive role in organising such a mega event.
Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud and minister of West Bengal Bratya Basu and President of the Film Federation of India (FFI) Firdausul Hasan were present at the inauguration ceremony.

Dr Hasan Mahmud said that this kind of cultural exchange will help develop the film industry and create a synergy between the two neighbouring countries.

“We have many things in common that keep close each other in every aspect. I hope our film industry will shine globally with our joint efforts” he said.

Bratya Basu, who is also a dramatist, director and actor, said such a big cultural programme reflected beautiful and meaningful relations of two Bengals.

“Once we had meaningful cultural exchanges between us. We organised film festival for the first time in 1965 where great Bengali filmmaker Satyajit Ray was present. It is just beginning of a new era for our film industry which will progress fast in coming days”, said Bratya Basu.

Twenty-four awards were given in three categories to Bengali films which were released in Bangladesh and India between June, 2018 and June 2019.

The awards are best film, best producer, best actor and actress, best co-actor and co-actress, best music, the best musician (male and female), popular film of the year, popular actor and actress of the year, life time achievement, best screenplay and best editor.

NEWS24, a private satellite television channel, celebrated its third founding anniversary on Sunday with a vow to brighten the country’s image by disseminating positive news.

The TV channel management renewed the vow while addressing an anniversary function at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital.

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan was the chief guest at the function while veteran politicians Amir Hossain Amu and Tofail Ahmed were guests of honour on the occasion.
Addressing the function, Akbar Sobhan said all the Bashundhara media, including NEWS24, maintain objective journalism by upholding the spirit of the liberation movement in the country.

He also pointed out that the all the professionals working with our media are facing new challenges every day as readers and viewers expressed their reaction through social media like Facebook.

“We stand by the people. Our unique target is to uphold the spirit of the liberation movement. NEWS24 and other media entities of Bashundhara Group will keep it up by eliciting stories from mass people,” Akbar Sobhan said.

Officials said that the satellite TV will focus on two-way flow of information in news and news-based programmes along with improving dimension of visual contents on its fourth year of operation.

NEWS24 Head of News Rahul Raha said the channel would continue inclusiveness of the people in news programmes adopting new technology in terms of broadcasting.

The channel has started a three-day special programme on screen, including special episodes focusing on freedom of media in the country.

“We have gained viewers’ heart in the last three years by producing round-the-clock news and post-news analysis of NEWS24. For next one year we have planned to strong our footprints on internet medium to make our views more interactive with shows,” Rahul said.

NEWS24 official channel on YouTube has achieved Silver button attaining 81.7 million views on its verified channel. Besides, 1.4 million users are connected with the verified Facebook page.

The channel has resources to reach any places in the country as correspondents across 64 districts are empowered with broadcasting equipments, including specialised mobile apps to live any incidents from anywhere, according to the officials.

Over 500 skilled workforces are contributing behind the screen in news gathering operations of the television.

The television started its journey as broadcast media entity of EWMGL, a concern of Bashundhara Group, on July 28 in 2016.

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan Opens New Mosque

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan inaugurated newly-constructed Baitul Jannat Jame Mosque at Bashundhara residential area in the capital on Friday.

The mosque has been constructed on three khatas of land beside Road No-15 in Block-G of the area.

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan graced the occasion as the chief guest. On his arrival, he was accorded floral reception by mosque committee president Mostafa Hossain, secretary Sahadat Hossain, chief adviser Saiful Islam, treasurer Habibur Rahman Badal, organising secretary Md Imdadul Islam Selim and members Mehedi Hasan and Md Abu Jafar Khan.

While addressing as the chief guest, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan expressed his happiness observing construction of the first floor of the mosque within a short span of time.

“I am delighted to see that the first floor of the mosque was constructed within a short period of its planning,” he said.

He donated more three khatas of land for extension of the mosque so that a large number of people can offer their prayers.

He suggested vertical extension of the mosque to accommodate adequate number of devotees.

He pledged his support for every piece of good and noble deeds in Bashundhara Residential Area.

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan recalled his contributions during construction of the country’s largest Faqihul Millat Mufti Abdur Rahman (RA) Jame Mosque in the residential area.

Apart from it, he supported construction of Beraid Purbapara Jame Mosque at Badda in the capital. He inaugurated the mosque in May this year.

The Bashundhara chairman solicited support from all concerned for implementing social welfare, charitable and religious projects.

“I will be always with every good work. But I cannot implement every project alone. So, I need support from all concerned.”

Mostafa Hossain, a businessman and a resident of G-Block in the residential area, presided over the inaugural session.

He expressed his gratitude to the Bashundhara Group chairman for donating the land and extending other logistic support for constructing the mosque.

“I met Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and informed him of our plan of construction of a mosque at G-Block. I told him that the mosque was being constructed on three khatas of land. He said that the land was not enough. He donated more three kathas for the mosque,” said Mostafa Hossain.

Later, the Bashundhara Group Chairman took part in the Juma prayer.

Hundreds of house owners and tenants and other people offered prayers also.
