NEWS24, a private satellite television channel, celebrated its third founding anniversary on Sunday with a vow to brighten the country’s image by disseminating positive news.

The TV channel management renewed the vow while addressing an anniversary function at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital.

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan was the chief guest at the function while veteran politicians Amir Hossain Amu and Tofail Ahmed were guests of honour on the occasion.
Addressing the function, Akbar Sobhan said all the Bashundhara media, including NEWS24, maintain objective journalism by upholding the spirit of the liberation movement in the country.

He also pointed out that the all the professionals working with our media are facing new challenges every day as readers and viewers expressed their reaction through social media like Facebook.

“We stand by the people. Our unique target is to uphold the spirit of the liberation movement. NEWS24 and other media entities of Bashundhara Group will keep it up by eliciting stories from mass people,” Akbar Sobhan said.

Akbar Sobhan said NEWS24 is highlighting Bangladesh across the world, projecting positive stories of the country.

He also appreciated the people behind the news operations of the channel to maintain neutrality in contents.

Marking the third anniversary, the news-based channel announced lifetime achievement awards to economist Wahiduddin Mahmud and journalist Kamal Lohani.

“Today it’s a big occasion to me as we get two legendary personalities in own fields of economics and journalism. Economist Wahiduddin Mahmud represents Bangladesh across the world through unique pieces in economics while journalist Kamal Lohani is pride of our nation as his voices inspired freedom fighters during the liberation war,” he said.

The Bashunshdhar Group chairman also made announcement to add an entertainment-only channel into the fleet of East West Media Group (EWMGL), the largest media group in the country.

Amir Hossain Amu said the channel has gained people’s heart through producing informative news and talk shows.

Tofail Ahmed appreciated the role of NEWS24 to spread the ideology of glorious liberation by practicing objective journalism.

Bashundhara Group Vice-Chairmen Safwan Sobhan Tasvir, Shafiat Sobhan Sanvir and Managing Director Sayem Sobhan were also present on the occasion.

NEWS24 Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Naem Nizam gave his welcome address on the occasion.

Officials said that the satellite TV will focus on two-way flow of information in news and news-based programmes along with improving dimension of visual contents on its fourth year of operation.

NEWS24 Head of News Rahul Raha said the channel would continue inclusiveness of the people in news programmes adopting new technology in terms of broadcasting.

The channel has started a three-day special programme on screen, including special episodes focusing on freedom of media in the country.

“We have gained viewers’ heart in the last three years by producing round-the-clock news and post-news analysis of NEWS24. For next one year we have planned to strong our footprints on internet medium to make our views more interactive with shows,” Rahul said.

NEWS24 official channel on YouTube has achieved Silver button attaining 81.7 million views on its verified channel. Besides, 1.4 million users are connected with the verified Facebook page.

The channel has resources to reach any places in the country as correspondents across 64 districts are empowered with broadcasting equipments, including specialised mobile apps to live any incidents from anywhere, according to the officials.

Over 500 skilled workforces are contributing behind the screen in news gathering operations of the television.

The television started its journey as broadcast media entity of EWMGL, a concern of Bashundhara Group, on July 28 in 2016.

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan Opens New Mosque

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan inaugurated newly-constructed Baitul Jannat Jame Mosque at Bashundhara residential area in the capital on Friday.

The mosque has been constructed on three khatas of land beside Road No-15 in Block-G of the area.

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan graced the occasion as the chief guest. On his arrival, he was accorded floral reception by mosque committee president Mostafa Hossain, secretary Sahadat Hossain, chief adviser Saiful Islam, treasurer Habibur Rahman Badal, organising secretary Md Imdadul Islam Selim and members Mehedi Hasan and Md Abu Jafar Khan.

While addressing as the chief guest, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan expressed his happiness observing construction of the first floor of the mosque within a short span of time.

“I am delighted to see that the first floor of the mosque was constructed within a short period of its planning,” he said.

He donated more three khatas of land for extension of the mosque so that a large number of people can offer their prayers.

He suggested vertical extension of the mosque to accommodate adequate number of devotees.

He pledged his support for every piece of good and noble deeds in Bashundhara Residential Area.

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan recalled his contributions during construction of the country’s largest Faqihul Millat Mufti Abdur Rahman (RA) Jame Mosque in the residential area.

Apart from it, he supported construction of Beraid Purbapara Jame Mosque at Badda in the capital. He inaugurated the mosque in May this year.

The Bashundhara chairman solicited support from all concerned for implementing social welfare, charitable and religious projects.

“I will be always with every good work. But I cannot implement every project alone. So, I need support from all concerned.”

Mostafa Hossain, a businessman and a resident of G-Block in the residential area, presided over the inaugural session.

He expressed his gratitude to the Bashundhara Group chairman for donating the land and extending other logistic support for constructing the mosque.

“I met Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and informed him of our plan of construction of a mosque at G-Block. I told him that the mosque was being constructed on three khatas of land. He said that the land was not enough. He donated more three kathas for the mosque,” said Mostafa Hossain.

Later, the Bashundhara Group Chairman took part in the Juma prayer.

Hundreds of house owners and tenants and other people offered prayers also.

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan Gets India’s Businessman Icon of the Year Award

NEW DELHI: Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan has been accorded India’s prestigious Businessman Icon of the Year Award.

On behalf of the Bashundhara Group Chairman, Bangladesh Pratidin Editor Naem Nizam received the award on Tuesday night at a function arranged for distribution of the Indian Retail Award and Indian E-Retail Award 2019.

Franchise India organised the event at JW Marriott Hotel in New Delhi. Twenty business giants of India, including Reliance Technology, Adidas and Raymond, also got the award.

In a reaction, Naem Nizam told Indian journalists, “Bashundhara Group is the largest business conglomerate in Bangladesh. The Group is leading the country’s real estate sector.”

He said, “Bashundhara Group is number one in terms of investment in the country’s industrial sector. The group is also playing a leading role in media through huge investment.”

KOLKATA: Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan has got India’s prestigious Information Communication Entertainment (ICA) Award.

On behalf of the Bashundhara Group Chairman, Bangladesh Pratidin Editor Naem Nizam received the award from renowned artist Shuvaprashanna at a function held at Hotel Hindustan in Kolkata on Saturday.

Bashundhara Oil signs deal with Vietnamese company for soil treatment at petrochemical complex

Bashundhara Oil and Gas Company Ltd has signed an agreement with Vina Mekong Consultants JSC, Vietnam for having done the soil treatment work at its petrochemical complex at Sitakunda in Chattogram.

Representatives of the two companies signed the agreement at Bashundhara Industrial Headquarters-2 in the capital on Wednesday. Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan was present at the signing ceremony.

Under the agreement, the Vietnamese company will do the ground improvement and soil treatment work at the petrochemical complex of Bashundhara Oil and Gas Company Ltd, a concern of the country’s largest industrial conglomerate Bashundhara Group.

For the first time in the history of Bangladesh Golf, the Asian Tour Golf event has been named after Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan on Thursday said Bashundhara will never compromise with the quality of food items.

Reiterating the group’s firm stance against food adulteration, the Bashundhara Group chairman urged food producers to combat food adulteration which led people to different diseases.

He was addressing a dealers’ conference of Bashundhara Food and Beverage Limited (BFBL) at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital as the chief guest. Bashundhara Group Vice Chairman Shafiat Sobhan Sanvir was present on the occasion.

Akbar Sobhan further said, “Bashundhara never compromise on product quality. We started cement production in 1992 which is now being used in the construction of mega projects like Padma Bridge and Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant due to its high quality”.

Among the awardees, Poet Shamsur Rahman, a key figure in Bengali literature, started off with his first book Prothom Gaan Ditiyo Mrityur Aage hit the Bangla literature in the 60s. His masterpiece Bandi Shibir Theke tells the stories of the country’s glorious liberation movement.

Acclaimed singer Sabina Yasmin is one of the key figures in Bangla music. She is renowned for her patriotic songs as well as her playback singing. She has recorded around 12,000 songs so far. Sabina received numerous awards, including the Shadhinota Padak and Ekushey Padak.

Film star Sarah Begum Kabari vibrated the silver screen for two decades after her debut in the film industry through Subhash Dutta’s Sutarang in 1964. Afterwards, she continued gaining minds of people through her works in Heeramon, Maynamoti, Chorabali and Titas Ekti Nadir Nam. Kabari received many awards, including the Bangladesh National Film Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Legendary actress Farida Akhter Bobita came into light through Satyajit Roy’s film Ashani Sangket. Thereafter continued acting in more than 250 films. She was honoured with National Film Award in 2018 for her outstanding contributions to the film industry.

Hanif Sanket has a special identity in the country’s cultural arena for picking out the unsung heroes of the society through his popular television programme Ittyadi. Sanket was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2010.

Earlier on March 14 evening, the newspaper started celebrating its anniversary through cutting a cake at its office on EWMGL premises.

Bangladesh Pratidin started its journey on March 15, 2010, as a venture of East West Media Group Limited, the media wing of Bashundhara Group, a leading business conglomerate in the country.

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan Honoured with Agrani Bank Award

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan was honoured with valued customer award by Agrani Bank for his contributions to various fields, including repayment of loans before the deadline.

Senior Deputy Managing Director (DMD) of Bashundhara Group Md Belayet Hossain received the award from Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on behalf of the Bashundhara Group chairman at the annual conference of the state-run bank at a city hotel on Thursday.

Bashundhara Group General Manager (banking) Md Razib Samad was also present at the function.
